If you have been suffering with recurrent and debilitating headaches or migraines, you may have been referred for chiropractic treatment and are possibly wondering, how can a chiropractor help with headaches?
At The Neuro-Muscular Clinic, we have successfully treated many patients who have been unable to find relief from other forms of chronic migraine treatment in the past, and who are looking for a long-term solution to the pain that has been affecting their quality of life for too long.
The Neuro-Muscular Clinic is an advanced, registered chiropractic clinic with a special interest in neuroscience. We apply our in-depth knowledge and understanding of movement, balance, posture and pain, to help reduce the frequency and severity of headaches.
Our evidence-based techniques and patient-focused, tailored approach support our mission to help long term headache and migraine sufferers get their lives back on track. Read on to learn more about The Neuro-Muscular Clinic difference, and how the latest neuroscience research drives our treatment success rate.
Our expert knowledge of the connection between balance, posture, movement and pain, and the effects they can have on headaches and migraines, allows us to define the root cause of your symptoms.
Short term pain relief isn’t helpful for anyone. Our treatments are based on profound change for long term improvement, so that your life can get back to normal, and remain that way.
The only way to achieve the improvement you are seeking is to treat the root cause of the pain, rather than masking it. Our thorough examinations allow us to diagnose the underlying issue.

BOOK NOWChronic headaches and migraines can be exceptionally debilitating, with the power to significantly affect your quality of life. Whilst many people suffer from occasional headaches, those that occur frequently can affect everything from sleep to the ability to process emotions, make decisions and undertake a job or enjoy a hobby.
If your headaches have been persistent for some time; if pain relief medication just isn’t helping, or if the pain has continued to worsen, then it could be worth seeing a chiropractor for migraine headaches.
Many patients come to us having been referred by healthcare professionals or other chiropractors who know that our expertise in neurology and our renowned reputation for effective chronic migraine treatment have led to more enduring pain relief.
When you see a chiropractor for headaches and migraines, they will start with a comprehensive examination to determine the root cause of your pain. Our examinations here at The Neuro-Muscular Clinic are exceptionally in-depth, which is one of the reasons why so many healthcare professionals recommend us.
Once the underlying reasons for your headaches have been established, a personalised treatment plan will be compiled for you. Treatments will vary depending on your individual situation and may include soft tissue therapy, spinal manipulation, low level laser therapy and much more. Sometimes a migraine chiropractor will incorporate massage and special exercises designed to relax and strengthen muscles.
Any pain from the nerves, joints or muscles from the top of your neck, head or jaw can cause headaches. Our goal is to find the source of the pain, improve the health of the nerves, joints and muscles, while reducing mechanical stress. We do this by improving movement, balance and posture.
There are various types of headache that can be improved with the right treatment. The most common are:
Cervicogenic headaches originate from the neck, which is why many patients are referred to a chiropractor for neck pain and headaches. The pain is usually dull and felt around the back, top or upper sides of the head, as well as the temples, forehead and eye area, or a combination of any of these.
If you have pain that feels like a tight band, this will usually be a tension headache. Pressure may also be felt around the back of the head and neck, at the temples and across the forehead. This type of pain is usually mild to moderate, and doesn’t tend to increase with physical activity. If you have been suffering recurring tension headaches however, you could well find them disabling.
Migraine headaches are known to be intensely disabling and, when they keep recurring, they can be life-changing. Some sufferers will also experience sensitivity to light, noise and smell, and nausea and vomiting. The pain tends to come on gradually to become throbbing in nature, located mostly on one side of the head, although it can move from one side to the other, or even occur on both sides together.
My journey with Mr Cook has been amazing. I am seeing results that I have never seen before and following recent surgery on both my back and hip Mr Cook has assisted me with my recovery and rehabilitation. I would 100% recommend the Clinic and look forward to completing my rehabilitation journey with Mr Cook.
After trying several other treatments and having little success, I came across The Neuro-Muscular Clinic and without any exaggeration, Jake has been an absolute life saver. All of my symptoms have reduced significantly. I would highly recommend Jake!
Really amazing clinic, quiet, clean and welcoming, I travel far because Jake is the only practitioner who can treat my condition. He always gets back to me if I have questions or need to change an appointment. I highly recommend seeing him if you have pain or joint problems or need someone who specialises in chiropractic neurology.

Headaches can be related to vertigo and dizziness. Chiropractic treatment always begins with establishing the root cause of the problem. If you are diagnosed with vertigo, your chiropractor will formulate a treatment plan that will target the specific form of the condition, such as BPPV. This may include the Epley manoeuvre, a method that is extremely safe and effective, repositions the crystals inside the inner ear. Tailored home exercises will also usually be set aimed at long term improvement of the vestibular system and its interaction with the brain.
Upper cervical trauma is often an underlying cause of many types of head pain, in particular cervicogenic and tension headaches. There are a huge number of nerves around the head and neck. Damage or compression of these nerves can produce pain, as well other changes in sensation or movement. Nerve entrapment might occur through trauma, chronic poor posture or muscular control. At The Neuro-Muscular Clinic we find answers to these three important questions: What is hurting? Why is it hurting? How do we fix it?
We offer an initial 60-minute consultation priced at £100. Once your diagnosis is complete, you will be invited to attend a series of 30-minute follow-up appointments. These are priced at £60. NHS, military or police force workers are entitled to a 10% discount on all appointments.
Many chiropractors offer much shorter follow-up sessions than ours, sometimes only half the time. Longer appointments are in our opinion necessary, because we need to assess how your condition has changed since the last treatment, and check that any home exercises we’ve set you are working well. We are committed at all times to a patient-focused approach, and will never allow you to feel rushed.
Every patient has different needs. For this reason, we individually tailor all of our headache and migraine treatment sessions. Once the root cause of your neck pain has been diagnosed, we will make recommendations which will help you achieve long term improvement. Any time or budget limitations you have will of course be fully considered, but with Neuro-Muscular Clinic, you will always receive a fully personalised service.
